Even if you are currently considering Sept 2017 entrance at an independent or boarding school, there are always options available.

However, to ensure you have the most available options, it is always recommended to begin investigations a minimum of 18 months in advance.

Our advice is simple: THE EARLIER YOU START THE MORE OPTIONS YOU WILL HAVE!

A Rough Guide to Application Timelines (Sept 2018)

A few of the more over-subscribed schools may require students to register 3-4 years in advance for pre-testing, but 18 months+ will suffice for the majority of top schools.

It is most important to remember that timelines can vary depending on what Year group you are aiming for. Years 7, 9, and 12 are the most common entrance points, though many schools will consider applicants outside of these year groups.

Each school has their own independent procedure for applications, and the below should only be used as a rough overview on how to proceed.

April/May 2017
Start looking at school options.
Speak to teachers and get a realistic picture of your child's strengths and interests.
If necessary, get school recommendations and advice from an independent consultant.

May/June/July 2017
Arrange to visit potential schools, either on Open Days or as a private visit.
Consider a Summer School for your child to help prepare for entrance tests.

July/August 2017   Decide which schools to formally apply to,  complete registration form(s) and pay registration fees (normally £100-300 per school)

Sept/Oct 2017
Second chance to visit schools and/or attend Open Days.
Ensure that registration procedures are completed.
Finalise preparation for entrance tests and interviews.

November 2017   Entrance exams and interviews are held at the beginning/middle of November either at the school or at authorised locations overseas.

December 2017   Offers are sent out and you are usually given 2-3 weeks to respond and accept or decline a place.

Jan - July 2018   Any remaining places are filled during the remainder of the academic year. Some schools run a second round of entrance tests.
